Painter AIJA JURJĀNE. Her name has been familiar to exhibition visitors for fifteen years, but this is the first time the artist has gathered her works together for a solo exhibition for the Riga audience. Looking carefully at the author's works, we discover in them a woman with a very unique perception of the world and also artistic thinking. Aija Jurjāne herself has said about her work in colour art that, while taking the usual everyday steps with those well-known and monotonous tasks, life seems just as tiring and grey as it does to any woman who has family concerns. But then suddenly one of the familiar scenes of life can flash in bright colours, adorning it with an extraordinary sparkle. And then one must try to preserve this vision in memory, so it can be realised on canvas, without robbing the sight of its life-like permanence or the charge of enthusiasm that was gained and experienced at the moment of the imagination's revelation. Thus, in the flashes of reality, Aija Jurjāne's paintings are born, forming a distinctive mosaic of the life and work of a woman — an artist.
